This will be a shorter post as the weekend flew by but wanted to remember what happened :)

Saturday: Beach day

We decided to find a beach since none of us had seen the ocean in Dakar yet. Since all of us wanted to go we had to take 3 different taxis. Per usual, we all ended up in different places. Our taxi driver dropped us off at the Olympic Club, so I asked the worker where the beach was. Luckily it was walkable so our cab made it to the beach. The beach was pretty empty, mainly just people working out. A little while later the rest of our group found their way, so it all ended well!

A sign we found on our walk to the beach

Some locals taught one of the boys in our program how to swim

There was also a man chilling with his goat at the beach

Most of our study abroad group

We attracted lots of visitors to our area. One man came up to us and wanted to practice his English. He mainly spoke Wolof, but his English was really good. He said he studied it on his own so we were all impressed. He was playing soccer with 2 little boys who came over a lot and drank most of our water. Finally, a lady came and sat down on our towels. She had a little girl and was also friendly, but no one really knew what she wanted. At first, we thought they were all a family, but around lunchtime, they all left in different directions, so still trying to figure that one out.

Sunday: Study

Sunday we mainly studied at a nearby café. Senegal played Equatorial Guinea Sunday night in the quarterfinals for the African Cup of Nations (like the World Cup for Africa). They won so on Wednesday they will play in the semi-finals. The spirits are high here! Whenever Senegal plays the streets are empty and those who are out are listening on headphones. It truly unites the country.

We found the university on our way to the café and were surrounded by lots of other college students

Our professor got stuck in traffic/is at a doctor's appointment (this also happens regularly) so we have a little break now. Not complaining though- a good way to start Monday!
