Our first week back from Toubacouta was pretty uneventful. It's been actually pretty chilly here recently. I feel like adapting a bit more, as I now think 75 degrees is cold. It's currently 72 and windy and I'm dressed in a heavy sweatshirt, but it's not as bad as some who are wearing full-on parkas and beanies. It's supposed to warm to 80 by the end of the week though. I've heard that the cold spell only lasts 1-2 weeks so I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

I'm getting more and more comfortable with Wolof which is exciting. A random fact, but I thought this word was really funny: "apolo" Dafa apolo means to have pink-eye. It originated because there was a pink-eye epidemic in Senegal at the same time Apollo was sent into space so pink eye was named "apolo."

Sunday, 2 girls and I decided to finally visit the famous monument in Dakar. We've driven by it numerous times but have never stopped to climb up the stairs. I honestly don't know a lot of history about the monument beside the fact that it is highly controversial. It was ordered by the former president, Abdoulaye Wade, and finished in April 2010. The man is pointing towards the west with his wife and child which also has several meanings.

It's a huge monument and has great views of Dakar and the ocean. You can go up it as well, but we just took pictures from the outside.

It was Sunday so there were so many pretty outfits out

We then wandered around and found a spot to eat... we honestly felt like we were eating in a bus stop, but the food was good so it totally worked.
