Saturday we went to Lake Retba, or Lac Rose. It is a pinky color due to bacteria in the water (though the pictures look more orange). We got there pretty early in the morning so it wasn't too busy. We started out by taking a 4x4 ride through the sand dunes. After that we went on a pirogue to the middle of the lake.
Pictures from the taxi ride to the lake:

Harvesting salt
There is also lots of salt in the lake so men harvest salt in the lake. Before going out, the men put shea butter on their skin for protection. You can swim in the lake but they recommend not spending more than 15 minutes at a time.
We finished our afternoon with lunch by the lake

And finally some scenes from the ride home...
